About Healing Touch for Animals®

What is Healing Touch for Animals® ?
Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) is a holistic approach influencing the health and well-being of animals through energy medicine and intention. HTA techniques restore harmony and balance to the animal’s energy system while providing physical, emotional, mental and instinctual stability.

S
tabilizing the energy system allows the natural succession of the body’s physiological response to support the immune system which encourages the healing process and promotes well-being. HTA can be used on all species: small and large animals, birds, aquatics, exotics and humans. Anyone who has the desire to assist another animal or human can easily learn HTA.

What are the benefits of Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA)?
Healing Touch for Animals® techniques benefit our animals in many ways:

  • Help animals understand appropriate behavior
  • Build the animal-human bond
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Support animals through injuries, illnesses, physical and emotional trauma or abuse
  • Build a solid support system for cancer patients
  • Develop confidence for training and competition
  • Support animals during the end of life transition

How does Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) work?
HTA uses the hands and energy of the practitioner to clear and balance the energy system utilizing HTA techniques so the body can self-heal. The correct physiology of the body is supported through relaxation and balance allowing healing to begin. When the energy system flows properly, the body is then able to support the healing properties that are inherent to health and wholeness.

Does Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) work with all animals?
All animals are receptive to energy-medicine because of their instinctual nature. HTA can be used on all species: small and large animals, birds, aquatics and exotics. The HTA techniques can also be integrated into a human energy-medicine practice.

Is Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) accepted and utilized by veterinarians in their veterinary practices?
Both holistic and traditional veterinarians and veterinary technicians are learning Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) and integrating the techniques into their veterinary practices. HTA is being used as a cooperative healing modality and viable service to their patients.

HTA promotes a cooperative relationship between traditional veterinary medicine and holistic health care providing the best healing care for our animal population.

What is Healing Touch for People?
Healing Touch (HT) is utilized to assist people in their healing process. HT is an energy therapy in which practitioners consciously use their hands in a heart-centered and intentional way to support and facilitate physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.

Healing Touch is an energy-medicine therapy that is an energy-based approach to health and healing. HT uses touch to influence the human energy system, specifically the energy field that surrounds the body, and the energy centers that control the energy flow from the energy field to the physical body.

The non-invasive techniques utilize the hands to clear, energize, and balance the human and environmental energy fields, thus affecting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and healing. It is based on a heart centered caring relationship in which the practitioner and client work together energetically to facilitate the client's health and healing.

The goal of Healing Touch is to restore balance and harmony in the energy system placing the client in a position to self-heal.

How does Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) compare to Healing Touch (HT)?
The difference between HT and HTA is the difference in the energy fields between humans and animals. Carol Komitor developed the proprietary techniques taught in the Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) program to support the difference in the animal’s energy structure from that of a human. All of the HTA techniques presented are taught to adapt to the animal’s energy field to assist in optimum healing. Additionally, the HTA techniques can be used very effectively on humans.

How does Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) compare to Reiki?
Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) and Reiki are both energy medicine modalities used for healing. Reiki is an ancient energy modality that is initiated by a Reiki Master through "attunement". HTA works with very specific techniques for various applications and gives structure to the healing treatment provided. Reiki uses a more generalized approach to balance the energy body.

How does Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) compare to Tellington Touch (TTouch)?
HTA works with the energy system of the body through access of the energy centers (chakras) and the energy field outside the body. Tellington Touch works with the acupressure points of the body using hands-on manipulation and stroking at the pressure points to facilitate the TTouch techniques. TTouch has also been proven to be an effective healing modality.

How does Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) compare to Animal Massage?
HTA is a non-invasive energy modality that balances the energy systems to promote healing. The relaxation given helps to stimulate the correct physiological response to assist the body to heal itself. Massage works with the manipulation of the fascia tissue to increase circulation providing relaxation. Each helps the body to heal itself and provides comfort.

May I only take the Small Animal Class?
Yes, you may participate in the Intro/Fundamentals and Small Animal Classes only. However, the HTA Certification Program requires that you attend all classes of the HTA curriculum, Levels 1 - 4. If you do not plan to work with horses, you have the option to attend only the Intro/Fundamentals and Small Animal Classes. Please note: in order to participate in the Advanced Proficiency Course, you must attend the Fundamentals, Small Animal and Large Animal Classes.

The advantage of attending both the Small Animal Class and the Large Animal Class is that you are able to focus, at a more in depth manner, on the details of the energy system as the HTA techniques are presented during the Large Animal Class. The energy of large animals, particularly the energy of horses, provides the path for the HTA Practitioner to gain a deeper understanding of the energy medicine concepts explained during the Small Animal Class.

What if I don't plan to work with or around horses?
Ideally the HTA Practitioner should understand the energetics of both small and large animals in order to effectively treat all animals. Working with the horses clarifies the quality of the energetic response because of their larger energy systems. HTA students gain a greater understanding of the energy techniques while working with the horses and the experience provides greater value to the knowledge of energy medicine. This knowledge can then be applied to all species, including humans.

Is there an age requirement for course participants?
Participants must be 18 years or older to attend a Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) Course. With HTA approval, minors between the ages of 12-17 may attend an HTA Course providing they are accompanied by an adult who can then help support the minor with the HTA knowledge after the course is completed. Both minor and adult must pay for the course.

About a Private Practice

What is the difference between an HTA Practitioner and an HTA "Certified" Practitioner?
Healing Touch for Animals® Practitioner (HTAP) is defined as any individual having attended and successfully completing a Healing Touch for Animals® Course.

A Healing Touch for Animals® Certified Practitioner (HTACP) is defined as an individual having met the requirements of the HTA Certification Program.

At what stage in my education may I begin to charge for Healing Touch for Animals® treatments?
Practitioners completing the Level 1 Healing Touch for Animals® Course who feel confident and have had adequate practice may charge a minimal fee for their HTA treatments. The practitioner’s skill level and market area would dictate the fee scale.

Will becoming Certified help me in my practice?
The Healing Touch for Animals® Certification process is designed to enhance the practitioner’s ability to assist animals with their health and well-being. The certification criteria provide practitioners with opportunities to develop their HTA skills through practice and interaction with clients and their animals.

Certification applications are submitted to a review board and examined for quality of energy medicine work using Healing Touch for Animals® techniques. The certification process lends credibility to the practitioner's practice. Veterinarians, trainers and dedicated animal caretakers look for the quality of work earned by becoming a Healing Touch for Animal® Certified Practitioner (HTACP).

About Essential Oils

What are “Essential Oils”?
Essential Oils are oils that have been distilled from natural plants. The oil is extracted and used for many purposes such as perfume, incense, room deodorizer and for helping the body to heal.

A therapeutic grade essential oil is processed by organically grown plants and is distilled in the gentlest way possible to keep the integrity of the plant’s natural healing components. The constituents or chemistry of the essential oil is held in tact during distillation which, in turn, holds the healing properties of the plant. When an essential oil is used for healing purposes, it is important to ensure the oil is "therapeutic grade".

What do essential oils provide?
Therapeutic grade essential oils provide healing properties from nature’s plants and assist the body to heal from many different physical ailments or emotional issues.

Individual plants have a chemistry matrix, called constituents, to assist the body with healing. Each particular essential oil has constituents imprinted in the plant’s chemistry which indicate the individual benefits for the oil. For instance, one therapeutic grade essential oil may hold a high number of phenols which would help a respiratory condition while another therapeutic grade essential oil may help to lift one’s spirits through the calming aroma. The individual therapeutic grade essential oil will provide many attributes for healing depending on the situation and on the choice of the essential oil.

How much do essential oils cost?
The price of therapeutic grade essential oils are determined by the availability of the plant, the harvesting and distillation that is required. Therapeutic grade essential oils such as Frankincense and Sandalwood are more expensive because of the scarcity of the natural plant. There is also a more involved process for distillation to ensure the full therapeutic value from the natural plant.

About the Founder

Who is Carol Komitor?
Carol Komitor is the founder of Healing Touch for Animals®.
Based on years of experience working with world class trainers, veterinarians, animal shelters, private clients and through extensive studies, Carol Komitor formulated the curriculum for the multilevel energy medicine program known as Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA). Healing Touch for Animals® techniques were created and cultivated by Carol through study, practice and experiential knowledge.

As a Healing Touch Certified Practitioner and Instructor, Certified Massage Therapist and Certified Hospital Based Massage Therapist, Carol witnessed the powerful, often dramatic, effects of energy medicine on humans. Her experience since 1991 as both a veterinary technician and a Healing Touch Certified Instructor/Practitioner inspired her to develop energy medicine techniques for animals. Carol’s passion for animals and her knowledge of energy medicine brought about a program of hands-on workshops offering a cooperative model that bridges holistic animal healthcare with traditional veterinary medicine.

Today Carol has an active Healing Touch for Animals®, and their people, practice in Colorado. Her continued, close connection with the work has allowed Carol to keep expanding her knowledge and understanding of both the healing process and energy medicine. She is recognized as one of the leading experts in essential oils for animals and has also developed techniques which incorporate tuning forks for use in sound therapy. Her private practice gives her the opportunity to develop new effective techniques to aid in the healing of animals. Carol’s practice includes distance healing for those who are unable to visit her in person.

How can I schedule a treatment/consultation?
Carol Komitor is available for private healing sessions and practitioner consultations, either in person or by phone. For more information visit her page.

To schedule an appointment, contact the HTA Office at 303-470-6572 or via e-mail at [email protected].

What is a "Distance Treatment" and how does it work?
A distance treatment can be facilitated for an animal or person in another location by using clear intent and focus. The HTA distance treatments and philosophies are taught in the Healing Touch for Animals® Level 3 Course.

About Tuning Forks

What is a tuning fork?
Tuning Forks are instruments designed to precisely emit a single frequency - a pure sound. Tuning Forks are used in the realms of medicine, music, and science for a variety of applications but their precision also makes them ideal for use in sound therapy, influencing the capacity of the human body to vibrate with pure sound.

The creators of INNER SOUND, Arden and Jack Wilken, have developed a special series of tuning forks spaced in perfect 5th intervals for use at both ears.

A perfect 5th is a musical interval in which the frequency of the higher tone is 1.5 times the frequency of the lower tone. The perfect 5th is an important element in our environment; it appears frequently in the natural harmonic spectrum of the voice. It is also the most important interval in sound healing and appears almost always in healing music compositions, ancient as well as modern.

There is a series of 13 tuning forks. The distance between each fork is the perfect 5th interval. The starting point of the series was derived from the fundamental frequency of the Schumann Earth Cavity Resonance, 7.865 Hz. This frequency lies at the boundary between Theta and Alpha brain waves. Because this frequency is below human hearing, the first tuning fork is set at the first octave above the Schumann Resonance that can be heard.

How do tuning forks help in the healing process?
The use of tuning forks in the perfect 5th interval, one at each ear, produces an organized wave of expansion and contraction throughout the body. This occurs at all levels helping the body to clear emotional blockages stored in the connective tissue to enter a deep state of relaxation. This state permits the body to regenerate and the energy system to balance and align.

Can anyone hear the tuning forks or just animals?
Everyone can hear the tuning forks when activated, unless they are deaf. However, even the hearing impaired patient (animal or human) can benefit from the vibrational frequencies.

Does sound therapy work on humans as well?
Yes, absolutely. Healing Touch for Animals® sound therapy for animals was developed from Carol Komitor’s understanding of the value sound therapy provided for humans.

About the Therapeutic Value in digital Audio Formats

.mp3 vs .wav - what's the difference?
.mp3 and .wav are both digital audio file formats. .mp3 has gained popularity through file-sharing and downloading music tracks over the internet but .wav files are the industry standard for CD-quality recordings.

An .mp3 audio track downloads faster than a .wav version of the same track because the file size is smaller - approximately one-tenth of the size. The difference is achieved through compressing or reducing the range of frequencies contained within the original recording.

.mp3 format has revolutionized our music listening and buying habits and offers a less expensive alternative to buying CDs, but the hidden 'cost' lies in a loss of quality of your listening experience which is not so easily determined.

Why this matters...
Our bodies are capable of responding to a 'symphony' of different frequencies (our audible hearing range extends from 20 to 20,000 hertz cycles per second). Music provides a rich, broad spectrum of sound frequencies that our bodies respond to naturally during our 'real-time' listening experiences.

Everything in our physical world vibrates, whether it's a table, wine glass or part of the human body. Any object or 'system' responds most easily to its 'natural' or resonant frequency, producing the biggest spontaneous response with the smallest input of energy.

As we listen to any kind of music, sound waves pass through our bodies producing subtle movement in different areas, helping us release stress & tension at a physical level, creating a 'therapeutic' benefit to our listening experience. The wider the range of frequencies in the recording, the greater the potential benefit.
